Class VIII- Tie and Dye (April Month Activity)

Indian Textile- Tie and Dye
Tie and Dye is a way to add a variety of vibrant colours and designs to the cloth. Bringing such an artistic technique to the classroom along with understanding the mathematics behind it, was really an interesting activity to do.
The students of Class VIII were introduced to this technique under the guidance of Ms. Saloni and Ms. Priyanshu, using acrylic colour and normal water which gives the similar outcome to the original tie and dye method and reducing the use of harmful chemical and boiling water used for it.
Students tied the fabric in different ways- spiral, diagonal, horizontal, vertical, bullseye, crumple, fan fold, etc. and the results were amazing. There were concentric circles of different colours, symmetry of different shapes and patterns of different types.
Tie-Dye is a good example of "Art Integration" where students visualized and formed different mathematical patterns by painting it with beautiful and vibrant colours.
